Doha, November 05 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials Sunday an array of local and Arab issues, focusing on Qatar's prominent role in the global gas industry as one of the largest LNG exporters.
The Qatari dailies also pointed to Qatar's continued humanitarian efforts in support of the brotherly Palestinian people who have been facing an ongoing brutal Israeli aggression; noting the State's commitment to support the basic funding for UNRWA, and its $18 million pledge to fund the agency for the period (2023-2024).
In another context, the newspapers noted the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2023 which will be hosted by the cutting-edge Lusail International Circuit later this month. The race will bring to, gathering the best riders in the world.
In its editorial titled "Qatari Gas Meets Need of Global Market", Al-Arab highlighted Qatar's prominent role in the global gas industry as one of the largest LNG exporters, which is enhanced through the agreements signed by QatarEnergy to supply natural gas to many countries around the world.
Al-Arab referred to QatarEnergy's announcement of a partnership agreement with China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) for the North Field South (NFS) expansion project. The two sides also signed a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) for the delivery of 3 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG from the NFS project to Sinopec's receiving terminals in China over a span of 27 years.
This long-term LNG sales and purchase agreement follows another SPA signed in November 2022 for the supply of 4 MTPA of LNG over 27 years, the longest LNG supply agreement in the history of the industry, the paper noted.
Such agreements constitute one of the fruits of the North Field Expansion Project which aims to enhance Qatar’s ability to meet the global market's demand for gas, especially in light of the changes taking place in the energy sector and the use of gas as a fuel for the transitional period as it is a clean energy source. This represents a decisive step in the State of Qatar’s strategic economic growth and enhances its vital role in the global liquefied natural gas market, Al-Arab concluded.
Under the headline "Another Horrific Massacre", Al-Watan condemned the continued Israeli bombardment of Gaza Strip, noting the successive massacres committed by the brutal Israeli occupation in the Strip.
Following the horrific massacre committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinians after their warplanes bombed the main entrance to Al-Shifa Hospital west of Gaza City, which left dozens of martyrs and wounded, they committed another massacre no less horrific and bloody by targeting the UNRWA's Al-Fakhoora School which shelters thousands of displaced people. This massacre also came after Jabalia camp was subjected to two Israeli massacres on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving hundreds of martyrs and wounded, Al-Watan said.
The bloody Israeli massacres in Gaza Strip have not stopped since the start of the brutal aggression on Oct. 7. Schools, hospitals, educational institutions, mosques, cemeteries, and public and private property were all targeted by the occupation. The bombardment of Al-Fakhoora School is yet another black stain on Israel as well as the Western countries that have been unable to even condemn the killing of unarmed civilians, Al-Watan added.
Al-Watan demanded the formation of a court for the war crimes committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and prosecuting the perpetrators of all massacres. The failure to hold those criminals accountable drive the final nail into the coffin of international law which has suffered the greatest setback in history. The international community must to act urgently based on its moral, legal and humanitarian responsibilities.
In its editorial, Al-Raya daily emphasized that Qatari humanitarian efforts are continuing to support the brotherly Palestinian people facing difficult humanitarian conditions amidst continuous Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, as the total Qatari aid reached 124 tons, with the state of Qatar reaffirming its commitment to support basic funding for UNRWA, and pledging to provide the amount of $18 million to fund the agency for the period (2023-2024).
The newspaper said that Qatar has repeatedly stressed the necessity of concerted efforts to permanently open the Rafah crossing and ensure the flow of relief convoys and humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The paper pointed out that Qatari aid represents a lifeline for the Palestinian people who suffer from shortages of food, medicine, and fuel due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip. This has caused significant damage to infrastructure and service facilities, including hospitals that are severely lacking in medications and medical supplies.
The newspaper underlined that Qatar's supportive stance towards brothers in Gaza is not new, as Qatar has previously allocated numerous development and humanitarian efforts to address the issues in a sustainable manner that serves the Palestinian people and future generations, noting that these aids have reached over 550,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries in Gaza, in addition to tens of thousands of beneficiaries from projects in Jerusalem and the West Bank through the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD). For years, Qatari aid to Gaza has been essential for the livelihood of thousands of families and the preservation of the humanitarian situation in the besieged Strip., the paper added.
Al-Raya concluded by highlighting the State of Qatar's collaboration with the United Nations, through which Qatar has provided hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to low-income families and maintained the electricity flow to the Strip. QFFD has also undertaken numerous humanitarian and innovative projects in Palestine, both in the West Bank and Gaza, the most recent of which was the delivery of 37 tons of food and medical aid by a Qatari aircraft.
For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation exceeded all legal and humanitarian rules, with deliberate targeting of innocent civilians and intense indiscriminate shelling of hospitals and schools in the Gaza Strip, adding that during the ongoing aggression against the Strip, the occupation targeted more than 105 health institutions. This led to 16 hospitals and 32 primary care centers being out of service, while 150 health personnel were martyred, and 27 ambulances were destroyed.
The newspaper referred to official Palestinian data saying that one Palestinian is martyred every four minutes as a result of Israel's continuous bombing of the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, and every hour six children and four women are killed in the Israeli airstrikes.
The paper pointed out that the occupation continuously targets schools and civilian institutions, which is a clear and flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which provides general and specific protection for civilian sites, as it comes in the Geneva Convention (IV) adopted in 1949, the additional Protocols I and II to the Geneva Conventions of 1977, and the 1954 Hague Convention.
In conclusion, Al-Sharq said that the occupation's bombing of Al Fakhoora School, which houses thousands of displaced people in the Jabalia refugee camp, and a number of hospitals in Gaza, was condemned by Qatar which considered it a brutal massacre and heinous crime against defenseless civilians, and a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, pointing out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned of the expansion of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip to include civilian targets, such as schools, hospitals, and population centers, which is considered a dangerous escalation in the course of the confrontations, portending dire consequences for the security and stability of the region.
In another matter, English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that after a successful hosting of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix last month, the state-of-the-art Lusail International Circuit (LIC) is set to host world's best riders at the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar 2023 later this month.
Under the headline "Excitement grows ahead of Qatar GP", the paper said that since hosting its inaugural race in 2004, the Lusail track has been one of the favourite circuits for teams getting the best out of riders due to its tricky nature. The Qatar race is the only race in the MotoGP calendar to be held at night, it pointed out.
The paper noted that apart from action that includes practice, qualifying session, exciting sprint and the nail-biting showdown on the final day, plenty of entertainment options will be available for spectators at the fan zone.
