Killer of Jew sentenced to death in Yemen
AMRAN, June 21 (Saba) – The Amran Appeal Court delivered its final
verdict in the murder of a Jew in Amran, sentencing the killer to
death on Sunday.
In March, the Penal Court in the province ruled that Abdul Aziz
al-Abadi, 40, who was a former pilot in the Yemen Air Force, was not
accountable for the murder of Jewish Masha Yaish al-Nahari, Chief
Rabbi's brother, because he suffered from a mental illness.
Under the court's ruling, al-Abadi would be admitted to a
physiatrist service. However, he would pay YER 5.5 million in blood
money for the family of the victim Jewish.
The Jewish family rejected the verdict saying it was unfair and
vowed to appeal it and pursue justice.
In December, al-Abadi shod dead the Jew at a market, triggering fear
of persecuting Jews, a small minority in the country. He was
arrested shortly after the murder and went on trial in January.
During investigations, al-Abadi confessed to committing the murder
but showed no emotion as he said that he killed Masha Yaesh Bin
Yahya Yahuda for the sake of Allah.
He also told invistigators that he warned the Jews in the area
through a message telling them they must either embrace Islam, leave
the country or be killed.
