Qatar Participates in IEC General Assembly

Doha, October 29 (QNA) - The State of Qatar is participating in the 87th International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) general assembly held via video conference from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2. The Qatari delegation in the meeting is headed by Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Assistant Chairman Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al Hamad Al Mana, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport. In addition to the commission's general assembly, the meeting agenda includes many discussion panels and workshops. The session was inaugurated with a speech by IEC President Jo Cops, in which he emphasized the diversity of countries and experts involved in drafting international electrical and technical standards. He highlighted the inclusion of compliance assessment work and how this diversity, with expertise and experiences from 89 member countries, enables the commission to derive more effective solutions to global challenges. The IEC's general assembly that was held last Thursday discussed several topics on the agenda and reviewed periodic reports of the commission's presidency and general secretariat. It also involved the adoption of the previous year's final accounts and financial statements and the projected budget for the following year. During the general assembly, members elected candidates for the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) and the Standardization Management Board (SMB) for the term 2024-2026. Each board is tasked with overseeing and monitoring its designated activities, which are then presented to the general management board of the IEC. All activities and reports must be approved by the IEC's general assembly. The IEC is one of the most prestigious global organizations specializing in issuing international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. Qatar has been an active member of the IEC since 2008. (QNA)
