Qatar Chairs Meetings of 36th Session of Council of Arab Transport Ministers
Alexandria, October 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar chaired the Meetings of the 36th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers that kicked off at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), in Alexandria city of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The meetings were attended by Their Excellencies ministers of transport, heads of delegations of Arab states, alongside representatives of the General-Secretariat of Arab League.
HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti represented the State of Qatar in the meetings.
During his remarks in the inaugural session, HE Minister of Transport thanked his Iraqi counterpart for the efforts he has made during his presidency of the 35th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers, adding that the 36th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers will exert further efforts to cement the joint Arab cooperation with the aim of attaining practical solutions that help all Arab states connect land, sea, and air transport to streamline trade exchange in a safely and streamlined manner, based on the aspirations of Arab citizens, as well as bolster the capabilities of Arab states to build joint Arab markets.
During the meetings of the 36th session, all items that were agreed upon in the previous session will be reviewed and implemented, including the concluded findings that contribute to activating the joint Arab action relevant to various patterns of transport sector, implementing development strategic plans, as well as discussing all agreements and reports related to regulating the land, sea, and air transport.
HE Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti thanked the representatives of the General-Secretariat of Arab League for their unwavering efforts in organizing the meetings, and the technical committees concerned with studying the topics laid out on the agenda. The meetings discussed a range of pivotal topics in land, sea and air and multimodal transportation between Arab states, chiefly the regulation of passengers and merchandise transportation on roads between and across Arab states, creating a comprehensive Arab electronic platform for road, rail, sea and multimodal transport, unifying procedures for transporting hazardous materials, as well as a draft agreement regulating sea transport of passengers and goods between Arab countries.
In addition, the meeting discussed the comprehensive feasibility study to establish an Arab mechanism and database to support ship repair and build industry in the Arab states.
On the sidelines of the aforementioned meetings, the General-Secretariat of Arab League inaugurated the exhibition accompanying the China–Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) in satellite navigation, during which Their Excellencies ministers of transport and heads of delegations of Arab states toured the exhibition and were apprised of the cutting-edge technologies of satellite navigation.
In a related context, a delegation from the Ministry of Transport participated in the 28th meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), held on Tuesday at headquarters of AASTMT in Alexandria in the presence of Their Excellencies ministers of transport, heads of delegations of Arab states, along with AASTMT's administrative cadre.
The meeting discussed an array of topics included in the agenda, chief among which are the creation of a center for climate change and sustainable funding, a branch for AASTMT in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. (QNA)
