World bows to Iran’s hardworking cliff-dwellers: Minister

Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s tourism minister says a decision by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to designate the Iranian historical village of Kandovan as an exemplary tourism spot is a sign of international respect for hardworking Iranian cliff-dwellers.

In a post published on the X network on Sunday, Ezatollah Zarghami congratulated the people of Iran’s Azerbaijan region, where Kandovan is located, on the inclusion of the village in UNWTO’s Best Tourism Villages Network.

Kandovan became the first of eight Iranian villages to be included in UNWTO’s recommended list.

The village, located some 50 kilometers south of the city of Tabriz in northwest Iran, is home to cliff dwellings that are still inhabited by local people.
