Foreign Minister attends OIC Executive Committee

Jeddah, Oct. 18 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in its extraordinary meeting held at the level of foreign ministers.
The meeting was chaired by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Riad Al Maliki, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the OIC were present.
Dr. Al Zayani expressed the condolences and sympathy of Bahrain and its leadership to President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people following the Israeli bombing of Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of innocent Palestinians and all those who lost their lives in the military confrontations in the Gaza Strip, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over dire developments in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing armed conflict between Hamas and Israeli forces.
He urged all parties to exercise restraint, calm, and end the war to preserve lives, property, and regional security and stability.
The minister highlighted His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's efforts, constructive discussions with UK officials, and a meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis in Vatican City.
HM the King also discussed with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni the need to stop military escalation, prioritise civilian protection, and ensure humanitarian relief and medical aid arrives.
The minister also emphasised the importance of enhancing tolerance, human coexistence, communication, and the principles of just and comprehensive peace
Dr. Al Zayani expressed gratitude to OIC, the Arab League, and countries for their continuous efforts to stop a destructive war that threatens regional security, stability, and the interests of the region's people, posing a global crisis that threatens international peace and security.
The escalation in the Gaza Strip necessitates immediate action and the international community's immediate action to stop the war, he said.
He urged all parties to engage in dialogue and peaceful negotiations to stop the fire and alleviate civilian suffering.
He emphasised the importance of international legitimacy resolutions on the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, the minister said.
The UN Security Council should take responsibility for issuing a resolution on the escalation, requiring both sides to respect international law and humanitarian law, Al Zayani added.
The minister affirmed the Middle East's need for stability, security, and lasting peace.
He stressed the importance of dialogue, understandings, and political settlements in accordance with international law and legitimacy resolutions.
The minister affirmed the importance of international legitimacy resolutions related to the peace process in the Middle East region, and the need for all parties to adhere to them to facilitate a peaceful settlement, end conflict and human suffering, and open new horizons for comprehensive and sustainable peace in Palestine and the region in general.
