Crystal Mirabilite Production Process Completed in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 16 (KCNA) -- The construction of crystal mirabilite production process, which is of weighty significance in establishing the self-supporting sodium carbonate industry, has been completed at the December 5 Youth Mine of the DPRK.

True to the Workers' Party of Korea's policy on definitely turning the country's chemical industry into a Juche industry based on domestic raw materials, builders, scientists, and technicians and workers of the mine established the crystal mirabilite production process by giving full play to their patriotic strength and enthusiasm so as to further consolidate the foundation for development of the chemical industry and inject vitality into the overall upturn in the economy.

The establishment of a new Korean-style production process opened up a bright prospect for increasing the rate of self-sufficiency of basic chemical goods, including sodium carbonate badly needed in different economic sectors, with glauberite abundant in the country.

An inaugural ceremony took place on the spot on Sunday.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, O Su Yong, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Kim Chol Su, minister of Mining Industry, Kim Sung Jin, president of the State Academy of Sciences, Ri Yong Chol, chairman of the North Phyongan Provincial People's Committee, officials concerned, builders, scientists, technicians, employees of the mine and other working people in the province.
