Jordanian Minister of Energy to QNA: Kingdom is Keen to Exchanging Experiences, Enhancing Investment with Qatar

Amman, November 14 (QNA) - HE Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Dr. Saleh Ali Al Kharabsheh stressed that his country is keen to exchanging experiences, enhancing investment opportunities available in the field of energy and mineral wealth, and placing all capabilities at the disposal of the sisterly State of Qatar. He expressed his hope that the volume of Qatari investment levels in the energy sector in Jordan, which includes a large number of Arab investments, would increase.
In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Kharabsha called for enhancing investment aspects between the two countries, as it constitutes common opportunities in this aspect, referring to Qatari investments in the field of energy in Jordan, most notably the Amman East Power Plant and Shams Ma'an Power Generation PSC implemented by Nebras Power, which is a Qatari-Japanese investment.
He explained that these investments are considered among the pioneering projects implemented by Jordan in partnership with the private sector that helped in diversifying the energy mix and relying on local energy sources represented by solar energy and wind energy, noting the presence of dozens of projects in the field of solar and wind energy on Jordanian territory, in addition to traditional power plants, hoping for more investments related to this matter in the coming periods.
On the other hand, HE the Jordanian Minister of Energy commended the great success achieved by the State of Qatar by organizing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which is the first environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral tournament, which contributes to establishing a solid foundation for achieving more successes.
In another context, HE Dr. Saleh Al Kharabsheh indicated that Jordan is working on the energy transition file, and the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies, adding that there are many opportunities available to Jordan in the field of green hydrogen, which will be a fuel for the future, noting the presence of many specialized companies that have expressed their interest in investing in green hydrogen in Jordan.
His Excellency also revealed the signing of 3 memorandums of understanding in the field of green hydrogen with several different foreign and local parties, making this a great opportunity for Jordan during the coming stages, stressing that his country has achieved great successes in the field of renewable energy, and has had a pioneering role in developing this sector.
Regarding the mineral wealth sector, the Jordanian Minister of Energy confirmed that this sector receives great attention, as emphasized by the economic modernization vision 2023-2033 launched by Jordan under the patronage of HM King Abdullah II. He pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed 13 MoUs for prospecting for minerals such as copper, gold, lithium, rare earth elements, phosphate and rock potash.
Regarding inviting foreign parties to invest in Jordan in the field of green hydrogen and ammonia, he pointed out that Jordan has worked to develop the renewable energy sector and address challenges on an ongoing basis. The regulatory and legislative environment, available factors, the presence of sites suitable for investment, and the required climate are reviewed and developed.
In the same context, he added that there are international studies that have listed Jordan among the three most suitable locations in the world for solar energy projects, pointing out that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan prepared a study of the marker reality to find out the challenges and opportunities that exist today in abundance to know what is needed.
HE Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Ali Al Kharabsheh concluded his remarks to QNA by saying that the appropriate environment and competitive advantage for all parties wishing to invest in the field of green hydrogen in the Kingdom is set, emphasizing the continuation of all efforts to make Jordan a regional center for green energy production.
