Juvenile Police Department Organizes Discussion Panel on Social Media Impact on Youth

 

Doha, November 15 (QNA) - The Ministry of Interior's (MOI) Juvenile Police Department organized a panel discussion on the impact of social media on the youth, held at the General Directorate of Civil Defense's Officers Club today, as part of the department's annual activities and educational program.
       The Director of the Juvenile Police Department at MOI Brigadier Ibrahim Eissa Al Bouainain attended the panel discussion, along with several students from various schools and those interested.
       The event aimed to raise awareness of the challenges that social media imposes, discuss innovative solutions for these challenges, and get the specialists' take on best practices, to ensure the safety of the youth.
       Director of the Juvenile Police Department at MOI Brigadier Ibrahim Eissa Al Bouainain said that his department constantly works towards raising the awareness of both parents and children, through the implementation of an educational and awareness program that consists of an array of juvenile training workshops, discussion seminars, events and activities held at schools, sport clubs, and youth centers, to establish a direct and continuous communication with the target audience.
​    Head of Awareness and Information at the Juvenile Police Department Captain Shaheen Rashid Al Ateeq moderated the discussion sessions that saw several speakers, including 
the School Leader of the Umm Al Qura Primary for Boys Khamis Mubarak Al Mohannadi, 
officer of the Awareness and Information Section at the Juvenile Police Department First Lieutenant Mohammed Abdullah Al Naama, trainer at Youth Empowerment Mohammed Shaheen and Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department First Lieutenant Fahad Al Shahrani.
​    In its final recommendations, the seminar called for strengthening the partnership between MOI's relevant authorities and civil society institutions concerned with raising awareness on the safe use of social media, instilling self-control and upholding cultural values and social norms and traditions, in addition to enabling parents to provide guidance to their children on the safe and constructive use of social media.
       The recommendations also stressed the importance of encouraging children to take part in sports and social activities in schools and beyond, to develop their social skills and adopt a healthy lifestyle. (QNA)
