Bahrain welcomes UN Security Council’s resolution calling for humanitarian pauses, corridors in Gaza

Manama, Nov. 17 (BNA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its support for the UN Security Council Resolution 2712 calling for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors through the Gaza Strip. 

 

The Resolution supports provision of essential goods and services, protection of humanitarian sites, and release of hostages. It also rejects forced displacement of civilians and calls on all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law obligations.

 

In a statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry called for fast-tracking the implementation of Resolution 2712 to end violence and alleviate the alleviate the dire humanitarian situation.

 

The Ministry said that it views the UN Security Council Resolution on Gaza as a crucial step towards reaching a permanent ceasefire, ensuring protection for civilians, reconstructing the Gaza Strip, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution and the international legitimacy resolutions, which would contribute to consolidating security, stability and comprehensive peace across the region.

 

The Ministry commended the prominent role played by the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the Security Council, in coordination with the Permanent Mission of Malta to the United Nations, in formulating this resolution, which the Council had adopted for the first time since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip.
