VICE-SPEAKER OF AZERBAIJANI PARLIAMENT MEETS INDONESIAN MPS

Baku, June 22 (AzerTAc). First Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov has met here today with members of the visiting Indonesia-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group.
Asgarov briefed delegation members on the activity of the Milli Majlis, legislative procedures. Vice-Speaker noted Indonesia is a very important country for Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence that Indonesia embassy would open in Azerbaijan.
Asgarov pointed out trade turnover between the two countries is 1.5 billion dollars, adding this figure falls short of the existing potential.
He noted Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan cooperates with such international organizations as NATO, OSCE, CoE, European Union, Organization of the Islamic Conference and others.
Vice-Speaker Asgarov provided information about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which resulted in driving over a million people from their homes. 200 thousand Azerbaijanis were deported from Armenia itself. He thanked Indonesia for supporting Azerbaijan`s fair position in the conflict.
Head of the Indonesian delegation Hanif Ismayil bin M. Ridvan said Indonesia is keen on cooperating with Azerbaijan. He assured Indonesia would continue diplomatic efforts to restore territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Discussions also revolved around role of Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus, opportunities for Indonesian companies to invest in Azerbaijan, prospects for cooperation and other issues.
Azerbaijani ambassador to Indonesia Ibrahim Hajiyev was present at the meeting.
