Ministry of Public Health Organizes Activities in World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week

Doha, November 28 (QNA) - The Ministry of Public Health, health care institutions, entities involved in animal health, food safety and environmental health sector, academic institutions, and all other relevant sectors participated in the "World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week" of 2023.
The event is held under the theme "Together to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance" and in cooperation with the National Infection Protection and Control Unit at the Ministry.
The Ministry of Public Health launched a virtual awareness campaign during which awareness messages were broadcast through social media to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance and emphasize the need to deal with it carefully, in cooperation with all partners in the health sector and all relevant authorities.
A range of activities were also organized such as awareness competitions and educational lectures in health and academic institutions.
The awareness campaign organized by the Healthcare Quality Department at the Ministry of Public Health during the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week received great interaction from all health institutions in the State of Qatar and the remaining partners, as part of the Ministry's keenness to enhance the role that individuals can play in the health and safety of the community.
The Ministry of Public Health building and many buildings of health institutions and public facilities were lit up in blue in support of this campaign.
The Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with its partners, organized many events and activities aimed at raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance and its optimum use in all health facilities in the State of Qatar. Moreover, the Ministry of Public Health organized a scientific seminar entitled "Together to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance" at Expo 2023 Doha at the Convention Center.
The seminar was attended by representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) along with several prominent speakers from various public and private institutions in the State of Qatar.
During the seminar, the speakers presented their own experiences in addition to awareness programs and activities within their institutions and discussed various results, which are an outgrowth of the national programs to monitor antimicrobial resistance and combat the excessive use of antimicrobials in order to address potential gaps or adjust the course in order to continuously improve health services and cooperate to reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
Through this year's events, the Ministry of Public Health sought to highlight that antimicrobial resistance is a problem that affects many sectors, and requires coordination and cooperation between all, as part of a "unified health approach" framework.
Antimicrobial resistance is a major burden on human, animal and plant health as well as the global economy. It is described as a silent pandemic and one of the biggest and most complex health threats currently facing the world along with the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. (QNA)
