World Innovation Summit for Education Announces Winners of WISE 2023 Awards


Doha, November 28 (QNA) - The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) announced the winners of its awards for 2023 as more than 90 projects from more than 50 countries applied for them, while Six innovative educational projects were selected that succeeded in overcoming global education challenges and had a positive impact on the society.
    HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi handed the awards to the sic winners, including the Moldovan Association of ICT Companies project "Tekwill in Every School" (TiES), one of the largest educational programs in Moldova, designed with the goal to offer Moldovan students equal educational opportunities driven by IT Sector Market Needs.
    The winners list included the Kenyan PAL Network International Common Assessment of Numeracy (ICAN), a simple-to-use and scalable tool that measures children's foundational numeracy, is designed to monitor progress of SDG 4.1.1 (a) and is aligned to the Global Proficiency Framework. The list also included the NaTakallam project by NaTakallam in the USA, which leverages technology to solve the challenge of millions of highly educated displaced persons and their host communities with no access to income. Refugees work as tutors cultural exchange instructors, and translators, providing customers with high-quality language services and building intercultural bridges.
    Ahlan Simsim project by Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) was among the winners, an initiative to bring early childhood development and playful learning to children affected by conflict and crisis in the Middle East. Also among the winners was Nature-Based Education Networks from the Colombian based Organization for Environmental Education and Protection (OpEPA), within the framework of reconnecting children and youth to nature and people to the Earth to build more sustainable, regenerative and peaceful communities. This through nature-based and regenerative education, heritage interpretation and social weaving, with a regenerative approach to cultural, social, economic and environmental dimensions.
    Catalyzing ECE at Scale (Rocket Learning) was also among the WISE winners for 2023. Rocket Learning builds early childhood and foundational learning at scale by connecting the government system, teachers, workers and parents, and driving community change by systemically leveraging technology, media, and social incentives through its innovative, low-cost digital model that sends contextualized content in the local language via "bot" over Whatsapp groups that function as vibrant digital communities.
    Over the past fifteen years, the WISE Awards have received more than 5,300 applications from more than 150 countries. Through these awards, the conference works to build a community of innovators in the field of education to establish an enabling environment capable of achieving pioneering cooperation in the future.
    Founded in 2009 by Qatar Foundation, WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) has evolved into an international, multi-sectoral platform dedicated to fostering innovation and evidence-based approaches in education. WISE 11, the summit's 11th edition, marks a significant milestone, emphasizing a new era of global educational transformation. Through its biennial summit, collaborative research, and a number of ongoing programs, WISE has become a global point of reference for new educational paradigms.
