MIQ Concludes Amid Significant Turnout from Qatari and Foreign Businessmen

 
Doha, December 02 (QNA) - The ninth edition of the Made in Qatar (MIQ) exhibition was concluded today at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, The exhibition was held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and organized by the Qatar Chamber in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and with the participation of 450 Qatari companies and factories, amid a large turnout by Qatari, Arab and foreign businessmen, those interested in the industry and visitors. HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani opened the exhibition last Wednesday in the presence of HE Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Chamber HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, and President of the Qatar Businessmen Association HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani. The four-day exhibition aimed to encourage the use of Qatari products, reduce dependence on imports, enhance the state's efforts to support industry, and encourage investors and entrepreneurs to invest in industrial projects. It also aimed to enable visitors to view the latest products and services in the industrial sector, communicate with industry experts and investors, learn about the success stories of industrial companies in the country, and their ability to develop their businesses and enhance their competitiveness, and highlight the industrial sector's ability to innovate and develop its products, and enhance competition. Many accompanying activities were held on the sidelines of the exhibition, including dialogue sessions that addressed the future of industry in Qatar, with the participation of a number of speakers from various parties. A number of seminars were also held to address several topics, including listings on the stock exchange, localization programs, local value, and an investment seminar to support project owners, in addition to Qatar Development Bank seminars. B2B business meetings were also held during the exhibition, which provided an opportunity for businessmen and foreign investors to learn about the industrial sector in Qatar and the available investment opportunities, and bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the exhibition to discuss ways of cooperation, concluding deals, and establishing alliances and partnerships in the industrial sector. The exhibition also witnessed the inauguration of many new factories and companies, such as the Gazzaz factory for glass containers, subsidiary of Qatar Manufacturing Company, and the launch of the Wyndham Furniture and Trade platform, a digital platform offering products and accessories for interior and exterior decoration and furniture. HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, praised the remarkable participation of Qatari companies and factories in the exhibition, as the number of exhibitors reached exceeded 450 companies that were keen to participate to present their products and services to the business community and visitors. In remarks today His Excellency explained that the wide participation in the exhibition reflects the local companies' in promoting their products in the local market in order to contribute to achieving self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports. The exhibition has greatly contributed to introducing the Qatari industry and promoting Qatari products, he said that the MIQ saw big development during its various sessions from the first edition in 2009 until this edition, stressing that the chamber will work to make further improvements to the exhibition during the next edition. For his part, General Manager of Qatar Chamber, head of the committee organizing the exhibition, Saleh Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, said the 9th edition of the exhibition is one of the best editions organized by the chamber in terms of the number of participations, turnout and the total space of the event. He noted that the exhibition was able to highlight the major progress made in the Qatari industry which included numerous vital events that enriched its outputs. On the sidelines of the "Made in Qatar" exhibition, Qatar Chamber First Vice-Chairman, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, received a trade delegation from the Republic of Angola led by HE President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola (CCIA), Vicente rancisco Soares. The delegation included 22 businessmen who are visiting the exhibition to get familiarized with the Qatari industry. During the meeting, Mohammed bin Twar expressed the interest of Qatari business owners to invest in Africa and in Angola in particular, which is considered one of the emerging economies in Africa and is full of investment opportunities that can attract Qatari investors. For his part, the head of the Angolan delegation said that his country is full of investment opportunities in several sectors such as infrastructure, fishing, agriculture, mining, logistics, manufacturing and hospitality, noting that there is interest in attracting Qatari investors to Angola, which provides tremendous potential and pioneering investment incentives. On the other hand, a delegation representing Chinese specialized in the information technology sector visited the Made in Qatar exhibition and were briefed on the participating Qatari industries. Meanwhile, on the closing day of the MIQ exhibition, Qatar Development Bank made a presentation on the model factory and the Qatari Numbering Center. (QNA)
