Bahrain participates in CSP-28

The Hague, Nov. 29 (BNA): Bahrain participated in the 28th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-28) held from November 27 – December 2.
Bahrain’s delegation was led by Brigadier General Samir Ahmed Al Zayani, First Vice-Chairman of the National Committee on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapon and on their Destruction, the Representative of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF).
Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabr Al Doseri, Bahrain's Ambassador to Belgium, its Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was present.
The delegation reviewed Bahrain’s efforts to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) through the establishment of its national committee in 2011, participation in regional and international meetings and training courses, as well as implementation of the relevant United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions.
The delegation noted that the new Centre for Chemistry and Technology at the organisation affirms the member countries' keenness to establish a technical centre that enhances its future capacity.
The delegation commended the efforts to extinguish all stockpiles of chemical weapons declared by all states parties to the convention, and the role of the organisation in achieving this goal, represented by its Fernando Arias, Director General of OPCW.
The Kingdom's delegation affirmed the importance of making the Middle East a nuclear and weapons of mass destruction-free zone, as well as strengthening international cooperation relating to the use of chemicals for peaceful and beneficial purposes.
