Transportation Minister participates in I33rd IMO Assembly

London, Nov. 29 (BNA): Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, Minister of Transportation and Communication, headed Bahrain’s delegation at the 33rd session of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Assembly.


 

The meeting was attended by more than 170 IMO member states, including 21 Arab countries, as well as more than 80 maritime organisations, bodies, and institutions.

 

The meeting adopted various resolutions concerned with maritime transport industry and maritime navigation affairs. It also reviewed reports of IMO committees and subcommittees.

 

The participants also approved the IMO’s strategic objectives, work plan and priorities for the next two years.

 

The minister emphasised that Bahrain is an active member of the IMO, as it has joined all major IMO maritime agreements and treaties.

He affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness to implement and activate the technical conditions and safety requirements stipulated in those agreements, in order to ensure the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment.

 

Members of the IMO Council were also elected at the meeting.
