Bahrain to participate in COP28 parliamentary meeting

Manama, Dec. 4 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain will participate in the international Parliamentary Meeting, set to take place on Wednesday at Expo City Dubai.

 

Co-organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPA) and the UAE National Federal Council, the meeting will be held on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

 

The kingdom's delegation will be led by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Shura Council Chairman.

 

Bahrain is participating in the international parliamentary meeting to consolidate the role of its parliamentary diplomacy in highlighting the national and legislative efforts, as well as programmes, projects and initiatives to confront climate change challenges and strengthen environmental security.

 

The delegation's participation in the high-level parliamentary meeting confirms the kingdom's commitment to the international agreements and resolutions related to addressing climate change effects, in a way that enhances the sustainability of the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and backed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

 

The event features a high-level meeting of parliament speakers, in addition to several plenary sessions, including "Parliamentary Oversight of the Paris Agreement Implementation Post-COP28" and "Bridging the Gap: Advancing Climate Action and Adaptation for Vulnerable Communities".

 

  Dr. Mohammed Ali Hassan Ali, Chairman of the Shura Council's Public Utilities and Environment Committee, will be a guest speaker at the "Beyond Mitigation and Adaptation: Operationalizing Loss and Damage" plenary session.

 

Hesham Abdulaziz Al Awadhi, Chairman of the Public Utilities and Environment Committee at the Council of Representatives, will also take part in the same plenary session.

 

Hala Ramzi Fayez, Shura Council member and IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians member, will take part in a plenary session on "Climate Action Spotlight: Leadership of Women Parliamentarians and Young Parliamentarians".
