BNA Director-General participates in 5th World Media Summit

Beijing, Dec. 4 (BNA): Abdulla Khalil Buhejji, the Director-General of Bahrain News Agency (BNA), participated in the 5th World Media Summit, held in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province.

The summit, themed "Boosting Global Confidence, Promoting Media Development", discussed several topics related to development and security for humanity, and opportunities and challenges of new technology and media.

The summit, co-hosted by China's Xinhua News Agency, brought together 200 organisations from over 100 countries- including media outlets, research centers, government agencies, diplomatic missions, UN agencies, and international organisations.

The Director-General affirmed that Bahrain's participation in the summit reflects its keenness to contribute to strengthening cooperation and communication to formulate joint efforts to shape the future of the global media industry..

The summit, attended by senior officials and leaders in the media industry, offers an importance opportunity to discuss media cooperation, global challenges, and exchange ideas for advancing international media work and fostering collaboration, he added.

The summit issued a joint statement that focused on four key topics: enhancing trust in the role of media in development and security; embracing changes in response to new technology; leading innovation in the digital age; and collaborating globally for growth.

The statement also expressed hope that global media would address developing countries' needs in poverty reduction, food security, financing development programmes, industrialisation, and resolving development imbalances; emphasising the importance of adhering to professional ethics and standards, innovation, and rational use of emerging technologies.
