Shaikha Dwa bint Khalid wins second place in ADSW Global Digital Art Competition

Dubai, Dec. 5 (BNA): Shaikha Dwa bint Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, member of the National Council for Arts, won second place in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week's (ADSW) Global Digital Art Competition.

The competition, aimed at harnessing the power of visual creativity to raise awareness about climate change and sustainable solutions, received entries from hundreds of artists from around the world.

The winners were announced at an award ceremony at the Connect Conference Centre, Expo City, Dubai, during the ADSW Summit- the anchor event of the ADSW Special Edition at COP28.

First place was won by artistic duo Nastplas, Fransisco Rodrigues Learte and Natalia Molinos Garcia, from Spain.

Shaikha Dwa dedicated her achievement to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) President.

In this regard, Shaikha Dwa said: "Winning the second place in this global competition reflects the constant care and support enjoyed by Bahraini artists, who are encouraged to devote their art to supporting the objectives of the comprehensive development process, led by HM the King and supported by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, based on the belief that art is an effective tool to raise awareness and educate people about various pressing issues, including climate change which directly affects the environment and human life."

She indicated that the selection of her artwork, which revolved around the theme of protecting the planet, was a source of motivation for Bahraini professional and emerging artists to continue using their talent and creativity to serve the goal of addressing climate change effects.

Shaikha Dwa expressed thanks and appreciation to her parents for their constant support, paying tribute to her family members, and the National Council for Arts, led by Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, for encouraging her.

"Venice Is Not Alone," the theme of Shaikha Dwa's four artworks during the competition, aims to draw attention to the risk posed by rising sea levels in many cities, including American cities of New York and Houston, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Rotterdam in Netherlands.

Shaika Dwa used a collage technique in her artworks in which blue-green hues were strongly pronounced to depict rising sea levels.
