Speaker participates in COP28 Parliamentary Meeting

Dubai, Dec. 6 (BNA): Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives participated in the Parliamentary Meeting at the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

 

The meeting  is a collaborative effort between the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC).

 

Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council was present.

 

In his speech at the meeting, the speaker said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is committed to continue implementing initiatives to enhance environmental security; in line with the Paris Agreement and achieving the goals announced at the Glasgow Summit of reducing emissions by 30% by 2035 and becoming carbon neutral by 2060.

 

The Speaker higlighted the integrated infrastructure in Bahrain, its highly responsive systems, highly skilled human capital capable of exploring energy solutions and the legislative structure that supports climate action.

 

 

He said that the Parliamentary Meeting aimed to mobilise parliamentary efforts and multilateral cooperation focusing on climate action, to achieve global sustainability and build a safe and prosperous future for humanity.

 

 

Al Musallam voiced support for the COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery, and Peace, as well as the Outcome Document of the Parliamentary Meeting, noting that achieving environmental security required addressing human security challenges, particularly the ongoing attacks on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

 

He emphasised Bahrain’s firm stance on supporting the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, based on the two-state solution.

 

Al Musallam expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the United Arab Emirates, led by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in addressing environmental issues and challenges.
