Manama, Dec. 7 (BNA): Hala Ramzi Fayez, Shura Council member and IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians member, participated in a panel discussion held as part of the Parliamentary Meeting at the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

The meeting is a collaborative effort between the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC).

The panel focused on the importance of integrating women and youth in the process of decision-making on climate change.

Fayez affirmed the importance of involving women and youth in civil society institutions and research and scientific centres in the discussions, debates, and decisions that address climate change challenges.

She pointed out that all sections of society are responsible for contributing to the success of the plans, strategies, and initiatives developed by their countries to address the repercussions of climate change.

Fayez also pointed out that increasing the size of representation of women and youth in legislative councils and parliaments enhances their efforts to present ideas in the field of climate change.

She emphasised the importance of complementarity of work and concerted efforts among institutions and individuals to ensure reducing emissions and reaching carbon neutrality in a short time.

Fayez stated that the development of awareness raising plans and educational programmes for all segments of society contributes to raising awareness of the importance of contributing to climate change.

She commended Bahrain's initiatives and programmes based on specific plans to achieve ambitious goals that contribute to climate change and enhance environmental security.

Fayez said that climate change has become a pressing challenge of high priority, requiring state actors to mobilise efforts towards stronger international cooperation to address this issue.

She emphasised the role of parliaments in tackling this challenge and working to develop legislation in support of government plans, aligning with international decisions on climate change.
