Uzbek First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance to QNA: Qatar is a Pioneer in Fighting Corruption, Promoting Transparency, Integrity

Doha, December 19 (QNA) - HE First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov said that the State of Qatar is a pioneer in backing anti-corruption efforts, boosting transparency and integrity, and consolidating the principle of the rule of law locally, regionally, and internationally, and hailed Qatar's success in establishing an outstanding legal and institutional framework to thwart and confront corruption.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Norkulov said that the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award (ACE Award), which the Republic of Uzbekistan is hosting the 7th edition of the ceremony honoring its winners, best testifies the State of Qatar's anti-corruption efforts and support of development worldwide.

Launched in 2016 by the State of Qatar in collaboration with the United Nations (UN), the ACE Award holds its annual awards ceremony in a variant country. It advocates international efforts aimed at encouraging institutions, organizations and individuals in various parts of the world to combat corruption.

HE Norkulov stressed his country's keenness to strengthen cooperation relations with the State of Qatar in many fields, especially with regard to fighting corruption, noting that the State of Qatar has achieved advanced positions and won many international awards in this field, and that Uzbekistan can benefit from Qatar's experiences in this regard.

Uzbekistan can benefit from the State of Qatar's experiences in enhancing transparency, integrity and combating corruption, especially with regard to the work plans, strategies and policies of ministries and government agencies and enhancing oversight efforts on various agencies in the country, His Excellency said.

Commenting on the Qatar-Uzkekistan relations, His Excellency affirmed that bilateral relations, especially in the economic, financial and social fields, had seen a significant development recently.
Both countries have the potential to attract investments, HE Norkulov said, highlighting the State of Qatar's great potential to attract investors from his country, in light of the continuous development it is witnessing in many sectors, as well as its implementation of many legislative and economic reforms to encourage the investment environment.

HE Norkulov stressed that corruption threatens the stability of societies, obstructs development, poses a serious danger to the progress of nations and the well-being of their peoples and places a lot of financial burdens on public budgets. His Excellency added that success in eliminating this scourge would enable contributing to achieving sustainable development, helping people access justice, and building effective, accountable institutions.

Concluding his statements to QNA, HE First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov Excellency hailed his country's efforts to combat corruption at various levels, enhance oversight of all ministries and government institutions, achieve the highest standards of transparency in all sectors of the state, preserve the integrity of public service, and consolidate good governance.
