AZERI, SERBIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS HOLD PRESS-CONFERENCE

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremic briefed Tuesday journalists on the outcome of the their meeting.
Mammadyarov said they discussed settling the Nagorno-Karabakh and Kosovo problems, developing economic and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia and holding business forums in Baku and Belgrade.
He noted both the Nagorno-Karabakh and Kosovo problems should be resolved on the basis of the norms and principles of international law including territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of internationally recognized borders.
We came to the conclusion that borders should remain unchanged as they were recognized when both countries joined the UN.
Vuk Jeremic said peace and stability are very important in the 21st century.
He noted Kosovo problem could have major implications for territorial integrity of countries across the world.
That is why the Serbian government has appealed to the International Court of Justice, he added. “Azerbaijan`s support was also instrumental in gaining a victory on this issue during a voting in the United Nations General Assembly”.
The Serbian Minister pointed out “Currently, the Court is considering whether the declaration of independence was adopted in accordance with the Charter or not”.
He said Azerbaijan and Serbia have strong political relations adding there are also great opportunities for development of bilateral cooperation in other areas.
Vuk Jeremic noted the two countries were expected to sign several documents in September this year.
“Our country is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan to settle conflicts on the basis of international law” he underlined.
