Arab League Appreciates Qatar's Presidency of Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs

Cairo, December 20 (QNA) - The Arab League appreciated the efforts of the State of Qatar and the several achievements during its presidency of the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.
During the opening session of the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, which began Wednesday and continues Thursday, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League Haifa Abu Ghazaleh noted the achievements at the level of the Council's work, starting with the launch of the Doha Declaration on persons with disabilities and multidimensional poverty, and continuing to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
In her speech, Abu Ghazaleh thanked HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad and valued the adoption of the Arab classification for persons with disabilities, the initiative of the Minister of Social Development and Family to implement it at the national level, and other important qualitative achievements.
She pointed out the support of the Arab Ministers of Social Affairs for these important initiatives that constituted a major shift, noting that the current session comes at an extremely difficult time due to the catastrophic humanitarian and social conditions in the Gaza Strip.
She added that the council is being held at a time when the world is unfortunately witnessing an unprecedented human tragedy that history will remember for a long time, and that will remain stuck in the minds of Palestinian generations. The Gaza Strip has lost the basic means of daily life and witnessed the destruction of its infrastructure. Unfortunately, the aggression is continuing despite all attempts.
Abu Ghazaleh stressed the need to support the Arab Center for Social Policy Studies and the Eradication of Poverty in the Arab Countries, which Jordan hosts, calling on member states that have not ratified its statute to quickly ratify it. (QNA)
