Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, December 24 (QNA) - In their Sunday editorials, Qatari newspapers hailed the diplomatic efforts made by the State of Qatar to renew the humanitarian pause in Gaza and reduce the escalation to reach a complete ceasefire to stop the bloodshed and prevent the region from sliding into a wider cycle of violence.
They agreed that Qatar is working tirelessly to reduce the tragic situation in Gaza, as it called for concerted efforts and endeavors to bring in humanitarian aid to cover the acute shortage of basic materials and calm the situation.
They also pointed out that HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani voiced the State of Qatar's rejection of the forced displacement policy perused by the Israeli occupation authorities against the residents of Gaza, and warned of the repercussions of depriving Palestinians of food, water, and medicine and violating their rights.
Al-Sharq newspaper noted that the State of Qatar continues its diplomatic efforts to renew the humanitarian pause, hoping to build on what was achieved to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that will end the war and stop the bloodshed.
It said that HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani stressed during his meeting with the Jordanian Foreign Minister the importance of the immediate stop of the aggression against the Gaza Strip, as well as the importance of issuing a binding UN Security Council resolution on ceasefire and allowing sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid into all areas of the Strip. He emphasized the State of Qatar's continued work with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the international community in order to achieve this, the newspaper added.
It pointed to Qatar's call to redouble the efforts of the international community and activate a credible peace process to find an urgent solution to this conflict in a way that meets all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and leads to a comprehensive, lasting and just peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab initiative based on the principle of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by calling for an immediate ceasefire, ensuring the provision of all humanitarian and relief aid, resuming the operation of electricity and water lines, and allowing the entry of fuel, food and medicine for the residents of Gaza.
In turn, Al-Watan newspaper said that the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip was emptied of any real content, especially after the vote was postponed four times to include taking urgent steps to allow the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid and to create conditions for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian fighters, explaining that the last phrase has no meaning after more than half of Gaza was destroyed and more than 20,000 martyrs have fallen, as if these horrific losses were not enough to issue a clear and decisive decision to stop the aggression.
The newspaper said that the State of Qatar and Jordan stressed the need to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip immediately, as well as the importance of issuing a binding resolution from the UN Security Council in this regard and introducing humanitarian aid in an adequate and sustainable manner to all areas of the Strip.
It pointed out that HE Prime Minster and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met with HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Dr. Ayman Al Safadi, adding that His Excellency stressed the State of Qatar's rejection of the forced displacement policy perused by the Israeli occupation authorities against the residents of Gaza. He also warned of the repercussions of depriving Palestinians of food, water, and medicine and violating their rights, emphasizing the State of Qatar's continued work with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the international community.
The newspaper concluded by saying that Qatar's position is firm in terms of stopping the aggression and engaging in a negotiating process that alone will achieve peace in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

For its part, Al-Raya newspaper emphasized the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to mediation and dialogue as an integral part of its foreign policy that aims to maintain open channels of communication with various parties in different conflict arenas. These efforts contribute to strengthening Qatar's international standing as a trusted peace mediator.
The newspaper pointed out Qatar's determination since the Israeli war on Gaza started to de-escalate tensions and reach a permanent ceasefire to save lives and prevent the region from going into a wider circle of violence.
The paper stressed Qatar's firm stance in condemning all forms of civilian targeting, highlighting that the killing of innocent civilians, especially women and children, and the implementation of collective punishment policies are unacceptable. Qatar called for equal condemnation of these actions by all parties involved rather than just one.
Qatar has actively worked to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza, calling for collective efforts to provide humanitarian aid to address the severe shortages of essential supplies and to de-escalate the situation. The state has reiterated the necessity of an immediate and peaceful solution to the crisis, which has persisted for over 70 days.
The newspaper also mentioned HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani's meeting on Saturday with HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Dr. Ayman Al Safadi, who is currently visiting Qatar. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian Territories, in addition to means for de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza.
Additionally, His Excellency underlined the need for an immediate stop to the aggression against the Gaza Strip, the issuing of a binding UN Security Council resolution on an immediate ceasefire, and allowing sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid into all areas of the Strip. He reiterated the State of Qatar's continued work with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the international community to achieve this.
Al-Raya concluded by stating that the State of Qatar's rejection of the forced displacement policy perused by the Israeli occupation authorities against the residents of Gaza and warned of the repercussions of depriving Palestinians of food, water, and medicine and violating their rights.
In another matter, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that a year after organizing the best FIFA World Cup ever, host nation Qatar once again is set to wow football fans by delivering the greatest Asian showpiece.
The newspaper said in its editorial titled "Asian Cup around the corner" that Qatar’s nine state-of-the-art stadiums including seven venues where World Cup games were played will host the matches. With ticket sales receiving an overwhelming response, these stadiums are expected to operate at full capacity throughout the tournament.
The tournament, which Qatar is hosting for the record third time after the 1988 and 2011 editions, is set for a fitting opening at the iconic Lusail Stadium, which will also host the final, the paper added.
The Peninsula concluded its editorial by noting that the preparations of Qatar's national team, who will defend their Asian Cup title at home, are in full swing, adding that as part of their preparations, Al Annabi will meet Cambodia and Jordan in friendly matches on Dec. 31 and Jan. 5, respectively.
