Qatar Charity Supports Health Sector in Gambia

Banjul, December 25 (QNA) - Qatar Charity's office in the Republic of The Gambia implemented a qualitative project to support the health sector, which represented the provision of medical equipment and supplies to the Aso District Hospital, which will benefit more than 8,000 of the poorest people in the northwestern region. In this regard, HE First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia Fatoumata Ba-Barrow said that Qatar Charity is a role model for institutions that contribute to development in the Republic of The Gambia. During her address at the event of handing over medical equipment in the presence of several officials, she noted Qatar's contribution to supporting the health and education sectors in Gambia, thanking this constant support for humanitarian projects. For her part, HE Minister of Health of Gambia Amadou Lamin Samteh explained that the medical equipment provided by Qatar Charity would contribute to improving health services provided to the people of the city and neighboring villages, and would help in treating many diseases, including chronic diseases such as cancer, heart, and diabetes, and will also help in performing surgical operations safely. Governor of the NBR region Lamin Sidikan pointed out that the region lacks the most basic health equipment, stressed the importance and value of medical equipment and its impact on the region, and thanked Qatar Charity for the great contribution in light of the health conditions and health sector infrastructure that requires this type of important intervention. In addition, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Gambia Hussein Karmash pointed out the importance of providing medical equipment to the beneficiary hospital, noting that it serves many communities in the region with a population of about 43,000 people. Marking the delivery of medical equipment to the hospital, he pointed to Qatar Charity's pioneering role in supporting and developing local communities in various world countries as part of its humanitarian responsibility towards developing countries. He revealed the implementation of many projects in the fields of economic empowerment, education, seasonal projects, and social care, in addition to intervention to relieve those affected by last year's floods, as all of these various projects aim to achieve a decent life for all those targeted in Gambia.
