Youths' High Enthusiasm for Revolution and Struggle Witnessed in DPRK

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- Carrying forward the baton of loyalty and patriotism of the preceding young generation who had been intensely loyal to the Party and the leader, the young men and women of the new generation in the DPRK displayed their high enthusiasm for revolution and struggle this year by zealously volunteering to join in the military service and work at difficult and labor-consuming worksites for socialist construction.

The young people in the DPRK have regarded it as their most honorable and sacred duty to devotedly defend the country. Such special quality and glorious tradition peculiar to the Korean youth were displayed to the full in March when the enemies ran amuck to provoke a nuclear war against the DPRK.

A large number of passionate young men and women turned out in the great struggle to defend the country, with towering resentment and hostility towards the war maniacs.

On March 17 alone, more than 800 000 youth league officials and youth and students volunteered to join or rejoin the army, and on March 19, the number of those volunteers reached over 1.4 million.

Meanwhile, many young people volunteered to work at difficult and labour-consuming economic sectors, revving up the nationwide revolutionary atmosphere for implementing the resolutions of plenary meetings of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

In January, young people in North Phyongan Province advanced into farms, mines and county construction brigades, and youth league officials in South Phyongan Province petitioned to work at the coal-mining industry and other difficult and labour-consuming sectors.

Following them were dozens of young people in Nampho Municipality, South Hwanghae Province and North Hamgyong Province.

Young vanguard also showed great enthusiasm for volunteering to work at the construction site for a new street in the Sopho area of Pyongyang Municipality.

University and college graduates volunteered to work at revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt Paektu, at schools in forefront areas, islet villages, mountainous areas and rural areas and at rural village clinics, with the determination to bring into full bloom their ideals and hope of youth at those posts at the call of the Party. -0-
