HM King receives US Defence Minister

Manama, Dec. 19 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received Lloyd Austin, Minister of Defence of the United States.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was present.

The meeting reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to boost strategic cooperation.

HM King Hamad commended the historical Bahrain-US relations and the advanced progress of cooperation in various disciplines, including coordination of military and defence cooperation.

HM the King highlighted the crucial role the US government plays in maintaining security and stability in the region and promoting international peace, in cooperation with its allies.

The meeting discussed the latest international and regional developments, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, the importance of achieving a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and the release of hostages and detainees; as well as ensuring that humanitarian aid is delivered to the Palestinians in Gaza as per international humanitarian law.

The also highlighted the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, supporting the peace process, and establishing the Palestinian state according to the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.
