AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023/ Iraqi National Team Arrives in Doha

Doha, January 11 (QNA) - Iraq's football team arrived in Doha on Thursday to participate in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, which will be held from Jan.12 to Feb.10. The Iraqi national team will play within Group D, which includes Japan, Indonesia, and Vietnam. They are scheduled to kickstart their matches by facing Indonesia on Jan. 15 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, then on Jan. 19 against Japan at Education City Stadium, before concluding the group stage matches by facing Vietnam on Jan. 24 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club. The Iraqi national team is participating in the Asian Cup for the 10 time in their history. It appeared for the first time in 1972 in Thailand, and since the 1996 edition in the Emirates, it has not missed the finals. Their most notable achievement was winning the title in 2007 in the tournament that was held in 4 countries (Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia). The Iraqi national team is currently ranked 63rd in the latest FIFA classification issued last December, while the best position it occupied was 39th in October 2004. (QNA)
