Sustainable Development Minister participates in Global Gateway Forum

Brussels, Jan. 30 (BNA): Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, participated in the opening of The Global Gateway Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity.

The forum was organised by the European Commission (EU) from January 29-30 in Belgium.

Participants from various governments, financial institutions, businesses, and civil societies across Europe and Central Asia attended the forum.

The forum discussed the EU's long-term commitments to strengthen cooperation with Central Asian countries and enhance sustainability and competitiveness of transport corridors through public-private partnerships.

The forum came following the European Commission's study on sustainable transport corridors between the EU and Central Asia, which identified infrastructure needs for projects, legislation, agreements and procedures, the implementation of which would enhance the operational efficiency and economic environment to attract transport networks' projects between the EU and Central Asia.

The minister met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the sidelines of the forum, where they discussed common regional and international topics and exchanged views on achieving sustainable goals.

The forum highlighted the EU’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with Central Asian countries to boost the sustainability and competitiveness of transport corridors through partnerships between the private and public sectors.

The forum’s objectives align with Bahrain's plans aimed at diversifying its economy and the logistics sector as part of the national economic recovery plan. It also came in line with the kingdom's keenness to strengthen partnership with the private sector, and support sustainable investment, in a way that attract more promising investments.
