Labour Minister participates in Abu Dhabi Dialogue

Abu Dahbi, Feb. 10 (BNA): Jamil bin Mohammad Ali Humaidan, the Labour and Social Development Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) headed the Bahraini delegation in the seventh Ministerial Consultation meeting of Asian Labour Sending and Receiving Countries "Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD)", held in Dubai.


 

The conference agenda covered workforce mobility, modern labour market management, and gender equality within member-state employment policies, focusing on organising and managing workforce mobility across countries and utilising modern technology. 

 

The minister outlined Bahrain's initiatives to protect expatriate workers' rights, including the Wage Protection System and the right to transfer workers between employers. 

 

He also outlined the principles of the Labour Law in the private sector for all workers, including freedom of association, protection from discrimination, social protection, and unemployment insurance benefits. 

 

Humaidan highlighted Bahrain’s efforts in combatting human trafficking, demonstrated in the kingdom's "Tier 1" status for the sixth consecutive year in the United States Department of State’s 2023 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, which is the highest annual international classification in this field.

 

The Dubai Declaration emphasised the need for continued cooperation between ADD members in managing workforce mobility and employment. 

 

It recommended adopting technical solutions that preserve basic rights at work, promoting economic growth and stability. 

 

The declaration also encouraged the exchange of expertise, successful experiences, and the benefits of bilateral and collective agreements in regulating workforce movement, promoting the exchange of successful experiences between member states. 

 

 

Humaidan held meetings with labour ministers, Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Asian countries, and international organisations to discuss bilateral cooperation in managing labour force transfer and employment. 

 

He emphasised the need to strengthen communication channels and dialogue to serve common interests, and to the exchange of expertise in managing the labour force transfer and employment.
