Shura Deputy Chairman, Deputy Speaker affirm legislative cooperation with IPU

Manama, Feb. 29 (BNA): Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, the First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, received Ambassador Mokhtar Omar, Senior Advisor to the Secretary-General of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The deputies affirmed the legislative branch's commitment to enhance cooperation with international parliamentary institutions, particularly the IPU. This collaboration aims to advance shared parliamentary initiatives and emphasise the role of legislative councils in aligning visions and addressing mutual concerns to pursue humanitarian objectives and face global challenges.
They also highlighted Bahrain's interest in activating parliamentary diplomacy on international and regional platforms, strengthening partnerships with other parliaments.
They reiterated the commitment of Bahrain's parliament to effectively collaborate with the IPU in all activities, seeking to advance initiatives promoting international security, peace, tolerance, and coexistence.
Ambassador Omar praised Bahrain's significant role in supporting and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy internationally and regionally.
He commended Bahrain's efforts in promoting values of coexistence, tolerance, and global peace.
He appreciated Bahrain's parliamentary division for its contributions to developing the work of the IPU and its keenness to participate in the union's programmes, projects, and events.
The meeting also covered joint cooperation programmes between Bahrain's parliamentary division and the IPU, as well as the development of bilateral projects. It also discussed topics contributing to the advancement of international parliamentary work.
