HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister attends The King’s Cup

Manama, Mar. 8 (BNA): On behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today attended The King’s Cup, organised by the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club (REHC) at its racecourse in Raffa, Sakhir.


HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa was welcomed by the Commander of the National Guard, His Highness General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, and a number of senior officials.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister highlighted the unwavering support provided by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the Kingdom’s equestrian sector, which has furthered its development over the years.

His Royal Highness noted that horseracing is part of the Kingdom’s heritage and emphasised national efforts that are committed to preserving it as a crucial part of Bahrain's historic identity.

HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad commended the wide-ranging accomplishments attained by Team Bahrain in the Kingdom’s equestrian sector.

His Royal Highness conveyed the greetings and congratulations of HM the King to the race winners, including the sponsors, owners, and jockeys.

HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad recognised the strong competition witnessed in the race, which reflects the exceptional levels reached by the Kingdom’s equestrian sector.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the REHC and its High Committee, under the Chairmanship of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), for their efforts in consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global destination for international horseracing championships. In this regard, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad expressed that these efforts were successful due to the implementation of plans and initiatives to achieve the desired goals.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad and number of senior officials, representatives of sponsors, and a large audience of international horse racing enthusiasts, also attended the race.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister then presented His Majesty the King’s Cup for imported horses to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and His Majesty the King's Cup for local bred horses to Abdulla Sami Nass, and His Majesty the King’s Cup –WAHO domestic grade 1 to trainer Abdulla Kuwaiti.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister further presented the Al Methaq Mile Cup to HH Shaikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, with the winning trainer Saeed bin Suroor.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa also received the Bapco Energies Horseracing Cup, for the third race, from Mr. Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies Group, who presented the cup. Mr Thomas also presented the Bapco Energies Horseracing Cup for the eighth race to HH Shaikh Sultan Al Din bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The Avenues Cup was presented by the Manager of the Avenues Mall, Firas Barakat, to Khalid Abdulrahim, and the representative of Al Binaa Group, Yousif Bucheeri, presented the Al Binaa Cup to trainer Allan Smith.

The Representative of HM the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), Chairman of the REHC High Committee, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Vice-President of the Supreme Council for Environment, Deputy Chairman of the REHC High Committee and Member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and a number of senior officials also attended the competition.
