Conference to Foster Understanding Among Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects Starts in Makkah

Makkah, March 18, 2024, SPA -- The global conference "Building Bridges between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects" began here yesterday under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
The event, organized by the Muslim World League (MWL), aims to foster understanding between different Islamic schools of thought and sects, and to address and counter the narratives, slogans, and behavior within different schools of thought and sects that promote extremism.
Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President of the Council of Senior Scholars and General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta and MWL Supreme Council President Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh, in his opening address, emphasized Islam's core value of unity, and warned against the dangers of division and disagreement within Islam.
Al Al-Sheikh thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques “for the generous patronage of the conference”, and for his great efforts to unite Muslims and work for their interest.
MWL Secretary General and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa said that the conference will issue a charter to build bridges among Islamic sects, which will include important guidelines and help Islamic sects cooperate in facing challenges, for the good of the nation.
Al-Issa expressed gratitude for the great efforts exerted by the Kingdom’s government under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince to serve the cause of Islam.
The conference today will see prominent Islamic figures, including muftis and senior scholars from various Islamic sects, discuss issues pertaining to cooperation among these sects.
