OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY PRESS SERVICE OF AZERBAIJAN`S DEFENSE MINISTRY
On June 15-25, 2009 units of the Ministry of Defense, State Frontier Service and Internal Troops held large-scale joint tactical exercises on “Planning and organizing the joint activity of different military bodies in order to ensure the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Conducting defensive operations on the first defensive line. Regrouping, conducting shooting trainings using modern artillery systems and aviation, launching artillery and aviation attacks to cause great damage to the enemy. Launching a counterattack to smash the opposite side. Deploying operational reserves to completely destruct the enemy, and restoring the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The exercises involved more than 4,000 personnel, 99 tanks, 55 armored personnel carriers, 123 artillery systems, 12 fighter jets, 12 fighter helicopters, and 5 assault transport helicopters.
Tasks set by trainers included:
Planning the joint activity of the units of the Ministry of Defense, State Frontier Service and Internal Troops of the Republic of Azerbaijan, establishing intercommunication and ensuring coordination among headquarters on different levels.
Repulsing enemy attacks on the first defensive line, ensuring coordination among the units, improving the work of the headquarters to ensure a coordinated control over the troops and maintain the information exchange.
Coordinating the joint activity of the units of the Ministry of Defense, State Frontier Service and Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to launch large-scaled offensive operations to destroy the enemy forces who invaded the country.
The basic stage of the exercise held on June 24, 2009 saw the tactical employment of the units and real shooting training of armament systems, and establishment of intercommunication among the units of different military bodies. The stage also included practical trainings in mastering shootings and air attacks by the armament systems, employing airborne troops and improving offensive skills of different types of troops.
The basic stage of the exercises was watched by President of the Azerbaijan Republic, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
The military units involved in the exercises coped with all the tasks set.
