Representatives Council: Royal pardon reflects King's vision, approach in consolidating human rights system

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): The Council of Representatives has extended deepest thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa following the issuance of a royal decree pardoning many inmates in riot and criminal cases.

HM the King issued a royal decree pardoning 1584 inmates marking the Silver Jubilee of HM’s Accession to the Throne and Eid Al-Fitr.

In a statement, the Council of Representatives asserted that the decree, reflecting the royal keenness to maintain the Bahraini society’s cohesion and protect its social fabric, affirms His Majesty’s approach and humanitarian vision aimed at consolidating the kingdom’s human rights system, by reconciling the punishment, on the one hand, and the inmate’s humane and social conditions, on the other.

The Representatives Council appreciated the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the Ministry of Labour to provide training programmes and offer job opportunities to the pardoned individuals so that they can fulfill their social responsibility to contribute to the Kingdom’s comprehensive development.

The Council of Representatives indicated that the royal pardon would provide an opportunity for the pardoned inmates to re-integrate positively into society, by taking into account their and their families’ human conditions, and paving the way for them to rectify their behaviour, as well as respect the law and showcase their patriotism and belonging to the nation.

In its statement, the Representatives Council lauded the kingdom’s modern human rights laws and legislation, civilisational initiatives and specialised institutions.

It also commended the kingdom’s pioneering efforts to consolidate criminal justice, paying tribute to the Interior Ministry, the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, the Public Prosecution and all the relevant ministries and entities for their endeavours in this regard.
