Government links Houthi rebels to drugs cartels

SANA'A, June 27 (Saba) – Yemen is accusing the Houthi rebels of housing drugs
cartels and trading in drugs to buy weapons and hoard other materials to fight the
troops, the Interior Ministry has reported.

"There is a relationship between the rebellion and flourishing drugs trade in the
northern Saada province with many Houthi elements being addicts."

Investigations with arrested Houthi rebels have proved the fact, the ministry said.

The rebels are also recruiting new faces through drugs addiction, with the movement
full of many drugs dealers and addicts, the ministry concluded.

Meanwhile, local government officials have accused the rebels of continuing
subversive acts, saying such acts are hampering peace efforts and derailing the
reconstruction process.
