Justice Minister says more juvenile courts to be opened

SANA'A, June 27 (Saba) - More juvenile courts are to be opened and provided with
female judges, Minster of Justice Ghazi al-Aghbari said on Saturday.

During his meeting with UNICEF Representative in Yemen Aboudou Karimou Adjibade,
al-Aghbari affirmed that developing juvenile justice in Yemen is on track.

He pointed out that juveniles' causes are dealt with professionally and in an
acceptable time and there is a post-trial care for the juvenile offenders,
indicating there are legislative amendments for the laws of Personal Status waiting
for parliament's approval.

For his part, the UNICEF's official praised the achievements Yemen has made in the
UNICEF-supported child protection program that Yemen has ratified within
international treaties.

The UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa will visit Yemen
in next month to evaluate the child protection program with Justice Ministry and the
concerned authorities during the first-term of the program, Adjibade said.

The meeting also discussed the European project for supporting juvenile judiciary in
Yemen, for which €3.5 million was allocated, in addition to €700,000 from UNICEF and
under supervision of UNICEF.
