Army jawan killed

Poonch (J&K), Jun 29 (PTI) An army jawan was killed
and another injured in an exchange of fire between security
forces and infiltrating militants near the Line of Control in
India's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch
district, defence sources said here on Monday.

A group of militants, who had sneaked into Indian
territory from across the LoC, were challenged by army troops
at forward post in Khari Sunday night.

The militants resorted to firing, which was retaliated
by the troops, they said adding in the ensuing encounter a
jawan identified as Mohinder Singh was killed and another
jawan sustained injuries.

The injured jawan has been evacuated and rushed to
hospital for treatment.

The army was conducting searches in the area to
track down the militants, they said.

The sources made it clear that there was no ceasefire
violation as there was no firing by Pakistani troops. PTI CORR
