Khalifa Hospital opened in Pakistani Muzafarabad city
Islamabad - June 30, 2009 (WAM) - The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan and Minister of Health of the United Arab Emirates H.E. Hanif Hassan Ali, on Monday inaugurated H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Hospital at Muzafarabad. HE Rashid Al-Hajiri, Chairman of Municipal Affairs, Qamar Zaman, Minister of Health AJK, the Ambassador of UAE, H.E Ali Saif Sultan Al-Awani and chairman of ERRA Altaf Saleem were present at the inaugural ceremony.
The function marked the successful completion of 250 Beds Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Hospital at Muzafarabad, which is one of the first prominent health events in Kashmir since the 2005 earthquake disaster that devastated all the basic amenities.
The state of the art Hospital complex is spread over an area of approximately 70,000 square meters with covered area of around 15,000 square meters. The project has been designed according to International standards and special care has been taken to provide environment friendly facilities, and the design is based on seismic zone-4 requirements. The project consist of three main components, namely main hospital building, ancillary buildings and residential complex with external works.
The main hospital building is a two-storey structure with four elevators and staircases having Out-Patient Department (OPD), Specialist Clinics, Pathology Department, Radiology Department having latest MRI, CT Scan, Fluoroscopy, General X-ray, Mammography, OPG, and Ultrasound, etc. apart from Blood Bank.
The hospital has a fully equipped emergency department, orthopaedic ward, physiotherapy ward, private ward, psychiatry ward, burn ward, medical and surgical wards for male and female patients, children ward and a maternity ward with neonatal care. Central kitchen, cafeteria, gift shops, pharmacy, complete administration blocks with library, symposium room, and accounts are also part of the hospital complex.
Ancillary facilities like CSSD, Laundry, Incinerator, Mortuary, Plant room, Two substations, metering room, stand-by generators, underground water tank ( 100,000 gallons) are also provided in the hospital. Beside these facilities, there is a sewerage treatment plant, which can treat 40,000 gallon sewerage per day. Out of treated water, 20,000 gallons are planned for irrigation and 20,000 gallons will dispose off in city sewer. A helipad for air ambulance is also part of the project. Two numbers ambulances shall also be provided for the project.
Altogether, there are 8 fully equipped Operation Theatres, dialysis room, ICU, CCU and recovery which are equipped with latest monitoring systems. The residential complex has two hostels, an apartment building '&' a Villa for Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
