India-EU summit in New Delhi on November 6: Krishna

Prague, June 30 (PTI) India and the EU have agreed to
hold their annual summit in New Delhi on November 6 to take
forward their strategic partnership, External Affairs of India
Minister S M Krishna has said.

At the end of the 20th India-EU Ministerial Troika
meeting here, Krishna, who held detailed deliberations on
various issues including global financial crisis and terrorism
with the EU leaders, told reporters that India and the EU are
"indispensable elements" in the multi-polar structure.

"Today we shared assessment of our respective regions and
also exchanged perspectives on global issues including the
current international financial crisis, need for reform of
international institutions, including the United Nations,
energy, climate change and terrorism," he said.

"The holding of annual summits between India and the EU
reflects the importance of their relationship...I am pleased
to announce that we have agreed to the date proposed by the
EU, November 6, 2009, for the next India-EU Summit to be held
in New Delhi," Krishna said after meeting his Czech
counterpart Jan Kohout, EC Commissioner for External Relations
and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferreo Waldner.

The ministerial meeting was held in Prague just two days
before the end of the Czech Republic's six-month term in the
rotating EU presidency, which will now go to Sweden. PTI PYK
