Japan raises aid to Yemen



SANA'A, July 02 (Saba) - Japan has decided to increase its
development aid to Yemen in spite of the international conditions,
Undersecretary of Planning and International Cooperation Ministry
Hisham Sharaf said on Thursday.

He told the state-run 26 September that the Japanese government will
announce the increased amount after concluding the annual talks
between Yemen and Japan to be held next Sunday.

Sharaf, head of the Yemeni side at the talk session, said that the
annual talks would review cooperation file between the two friendly
countries and support requested by some ministries and the priority
sectors that will get the Japanese support next year.

The current Japanese support is between $ 15 - 25 million annually
focusing on sectors of agriculture, schools, safe drinking water,
technical and vocational training and public health in addition to
the technical support to support Yemeni capabilities in areas of
Demining, marine safety and combating piracy in Gulf of Aden, Sharaf
said.
