Centre asked to help 13 TN workers return home from Malaysia

Madurai, July 4 (PTI) The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee
has asked India's Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs
Vayalar Ravi to help 13 workers return home from Malaysia,
following reports that they were being harassed by their NRI
employer.

Tamil Nadu Congress Commitee (TNCC) Secretary A S P
Sivasundaram in a letter to Ravi, said an Non-Resident Indian
(NRI) running a company at Penang had taken the workers there,
promising them good wages, lodging and other perks. But they
were asked to work in jewellery shops and haircutting saloons
for low wages, he said.

Sivasundaram alleged that the NRI had taken all their
documents, including passports after they reached Malaysia and
that they were neither paid the agreed wages, nor provided
lodging facilities.

The workers have been detained at the work place against
their wishes, he alleged. PTI SSN
