Malaysia Will Share Chairmanship Preparations During Asean Sec-Gen's Working Visit

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Dec 2 (Bernama) -- ASEAN secretary-general Dr Kao Kim Hourn’s working visit to Malaysia beginning Monday aims to step up the ASEAN Secretariat’s engagement and collaboration with Malaysia to ensure the success of the ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship in 2025.

In a statement from Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra), it was announced that during the meetings Malaysia will brief the Secretary-General on its overall preparations for the Chairmanship in 2025, including the priorities and deliverables that Malaysia has outlined for next year.

“Discussions will also touch on the Chairmanship’s theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability, and the support that the ASEAN Secretariat will provide to facilitate Malaysia as the ASEAN Chair in ensuring a seamless coordination and synergy across the three pillars of the ASEAN Community,” the statement read.

According to Wisma Putra, the Secretariat’s continuous advisory and support to Malaysia’s ministries and agencies, particularly in preserving institutional memory and preparing essential documents, will be instrumental in strengthening ASEAN’s community-building initiatives and institutional framework.

The statement said Kao is scheduled to pay a courtesy call to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The Secretary-General will also have a meeting with Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, the coordinating minister for the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) pillar.

“He will also have separate meetings with Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Tiong King Sing, the coordinating Ministers for ASEAN Economic (AEC) and Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) pillars, respectively, as well as with Auditor General of Malaysia Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi,” the statement added.
