NBA member channels asked to voluntarily adopt ethics code

New Delhi, July 7 (PTI) News Broadcasters Association
(NBA) has asked all its member channels to voluntarily adopt
the code of ethics and broadcasting standards as a measure of
self regulation, the government said on Tuesday.

Stating this, Minister of State for Information and
Broadcasting, C M Jatua made it clear that government has not
issued any guidelines to regulate TV channels.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha
(Lower House of Indian Parliament), he said NBA has prepared
their code of ethics and broadcasting standards.

In the aftermath of terrorist attack in India's
western city of Mumbai, NBA also issued guidelines for
telecast of news during emergency situations and also issued
specific guidelines covering reportage to be adhered by their
member-broadcasters.

He also said that TRAI has sent its recommendations on
Phase-III of FM radio expansion. PTI AMI
