SYRIAN PRESIDENT MEETS MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER IN BAKU
Baku. July 9 (AzerTAc). President of Syria Bashar al-Assad has today met with Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov.
Asadov said the Syrian President`s current visit had opened a new page in the history of relationship between the two countries.
According to him, the documents signed during the trip created strong legal base for future cooperation.
The Speaker underlined national leaders and former presidents Heydar Aliyev and Hafez Assad made outstanding contributions to the development of Azerbaijan-Syria relations. He added “this political course has successfully been continued by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Bashar al-Assad”.
Touching upon the inter-parliamentary ties, Asadov pointed out friendship groups were set up in the two countries` legislative bodies.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Speaker said Syria had always supported Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. He stressed the dispute must be settled peacefully and on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad thanked President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people for the hospitality.
He noted friendly relations between Syria and Azerbaijan had profound roots.
The President vowed to spare no efforts to contribute to boosting bilateral relationship even more.
On the inter-parliamentary relations, he underscored the necessity of expanding cooperation between the two countries` legislative bodies including friendship groups.
