Egyptian Experts Discuss the Role of the Middle East in the Russia-Ukraine Settlement

Moscow, March 4 – Sputnik. Amid the rapidly evolving international landscape, Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt, are assuming an increasingly significant role in global affairs, particularly in efforts to mediate the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During a roundtable discussion organized by Sputnik, Ahmed Mohamed Ali Al-Sayed, Head of the Advisory Department on Medical Affairs at the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers, highlighted the economic repercussions of the conflict on the region, stating: “Russia and Ukraine are among the primary suppliers of wheat and grain to Eastern nations, and thus, the military operation has had an enormous impact on this sector.” He further emphasized the considerable contribution of Arab states to the resolution of the crisis, adding: “The Middle East has already played a crucial role in the Russia-Ukraine crisis across various domains, most notably in the exchange of prisoners, which has taken place since the very beginning and continues to this day with the active involvement of Arab nations.”
For his part, Ahmed Mustafa, Director of the Asian Center for Research and Translation in Egypt, explained the rationale behind choosing Saudi Arabia as the venue for negotiations between Russia and the United States, stating: “Saudi Arabia was selected as the site for direct talks between Russia and the U.S. due to its strong relations with both nations, as well as its growing geopolitical and economic role in recent times—not only on a regional scale but also in global affairs.”
Experts concurred that the Middle East’s expanding influence in global politics paves the way for new opportunities in multilateral cooperation and diplomatic initiatives.
