Malaysia’s Northernmost State Perlis Seeks Spot On Japan’s Tourism Map

KANGAR (Perlis, Malaysia), April 18 (Bernama) -- The Perlis state government aims to promote its tourism offerings more extensively in Japan to showcase the state’s unique attractions and encourage more Japanese tourists to visit.

Chief Minister Mohd Shukri Ramli said many Japanese travellers are more familiar with destinations like Penang and Kuala Lumpur, with little awareness of Perlis -- Malaysia’s northenmost state in Peninsular Malaysia.

“To address this, we are working to promote Perlis’ tourism products and introduce them to the Japanese public. We may also collaborate with Perlis students currently studying in Japan to help raise the state’s profile among locals there,” he told reporters after receiving a courtesy visit from the Consul General of Japan in Penang (north Malaysia), Machida Shinya here Friday.

Mohd Shukri said the visit was part of the Consul General’s broader efforts to support the promotion of Perlis in Japan.

On investment opportunities, the Chief Minister said he informed Machida that industrial land in Perlis is more competitively priced than in other states, making it an attractive proposition for Japanese investors.

“Machida has expressed his willingness to help introduce Perlis to potential investors in Japan,” he said, adding that two Japanese companies have already invested in the state.
