Speaker discusses parliamentary diplomacy to support Palestine with Turkish counterpart

Istanbul, Apr. 18 (BNA): Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, discussed with Professor Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), efforts to activate mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy in support of the Palestinian cause.
The meeting was held ahead of the inaugural summit of the Parliaments Supporting Palestine Group Meeting in Istanbul, in the presence of Bassam Ahmed Marzooq, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Republic of Türkiye, and the accompanying parliamentary delegation.
During the meeting, Al Musallam commended the Republic of Türkiye’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, emphasising the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm and unwavering support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and relevant international resolutions.
He emphasised the importance of unifying efforts to end and prevent violence that threatens regional security and stability.
He underscored the need to adopt a parliamentary action plan in support of the Palestinian people’s resilience on their land, based on the outcomes of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), recently held in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which, for the first time, adopted a resolution, agreed by all geopolitical groups, entitled: "The role of parliaments in advancing a two-State solution in Palestine"
Al Musallam presented several proposals from the Council of Representatives concerning the draft “Istanbul Declaration” expected to be issued by the meeting, including endorsement of the outcomes of the Bahrain Summit and the Emergency Arab Summit held in the Arab Republic of Egypt in March, in addition to support for the plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
On his part, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Bahrain’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, stressing that the situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, requires solidarity and unity among parliamentarians to achieve tangible results.
