Parliament delegation participates in preparatory meeting to draft Istanbul Declaration

Istanbul, Apr. 18 (BNA): Representative Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi underscored that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has assumed the responsibility of advancing regional and international initiatives aligned with its balanced approach.
This reflects Bahrain’s commitment and role in supporting Arab causes, foremost the Palestinian cause, which he described as the central issue and a cornerstone of regional peace and stability.
This came during his participation, representing the Council of Representatives, in a preparatory meeting on the draft declaration expected to be issued at the Summit of the Parliaments Supporting Palestine Group Meeting in Istanbul.
Dr. Al Nuaimi noted that the Council of Representatives, led by Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, submitted a number of proposals to be included in the declaration.
These include drawing on the outcomes of the Arab Summit held in the Kingdom of Bahrain and what was stated in the Manama Declaration, as well as adding a new clause expressing full support for the resolution adopted by the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), recently held in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The resolution, which received consensus from all geopolitical groups, is titled “The role of parliaments in advancing a two-State solution in Palestine".
The proposals also included reaffirming the right of return for Palestinian refugees and rejecting any plans for demographic change in the Gaza Strip.
The first meeting of Speakers of Parliaments Supporting Palestine is scheduled to be held on Saturday evening, with the participation of 13 parliamentary delegations from various countries.
The meeting is expected to conclude with the announcement of the formation of a parliamentary group in support of Palestine, which will serve as a platform for cooperation and consultation on the Palestinian cause.
